Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019) [Review]

Image
**CONTAINS SPOILERS** Director: John Watts Writers: Chris McKenna &  Erik Sommers . Comic book by Stan Lee  & Steve Ditko Starring: Tom Holland , Samuel L Jackson , Jake Gyllenhaal , Zendaya . See full cast members here . Genre: Superhero Movie, Action, Adventure Rating: Superhero fights, a lot of destruction and chaos. No gore.  SYNOPSIS:  After the events of Endgame  or what the school kids have been referring to as 'The Blip', Peter Parker (Tom Holland) carried on being Spider-Man. However, he has been pressured by many to step up and be the leader of the Avengers, replacing Tony Stark which is quite hard for him since all he wanted was to have a normal teenage life (or at least a proper normal holiday in Europe).  I can assure you that the most exciting thing for me about this movie is Jake Gyllenhaal. I simply adore him as a person and worship him for his acting. He rarely disappoints. In this movie, I love hi...

American Assassin (2017) [Review]

Image
Director: Michael Cuesta Writers: Vince Flynn (Novel),  Stephen Schiff ,  Michael Finch ,  Edward Zwick  &  Marshall Herskovitz (Screenplay) Starring: Dylan O'Brien , Micheal Keaton . See full cast members here . Genre: Action, Spy, Terrorism  Rating: Many violent fights, some torture and horrible deaths. Oh, there's a boobs scene for 3 seconds. No sex though. Meh SYNOPSIS: Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien) and his girlfriend was on holiday at a beach when a group of terrorists attacked. His girlfriend was killed and that triggered Mitch to train himself to be an assassin so that he could get revenge.  If you read the synopsis above, you might think that this is a typical revenge story. Welp, it's not. The revenge part is just short. Then, the main character got sucked into a world of spies and CIA shit. I have to say, the revenge part, which is at the first 10 to 20 minutes of the film is very intriguing for me. The rest of the...

Shot Caller (2017) [Review]

Image
Director: Ric Roman Waugh Writer: Ric Roman Waugh Starring: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau , Omari Hardwick , Lake Bell . See full cast members here . Genre: Action, Gangster, Prison Scene Rating: Many violent, gory fights and bloody as hell. SYNOPSIS:  Jacob (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a plain, married suit and tie guy, was sent to prison for a crime he unintentionally did. In prison, he quickly learned that he needed to adapt or die.  I have to admit, I was interested in seeing this movie because Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (damn it's hard to type his name) a.k.a the infamous Jamie Lannister a.k.a the kingslayer is in it. This guy is damn good in Game of Thrones and I was intrigued that he is willing to star in a prison gangster film.  I have to say, Nikolaj is the best thing about this movie. His acting is on point. At first he is portraying this tough, scary prison gang member and then during flashbacks, he seems like total nerd. That's good acting. T...

Aquaman (2018) [Review]

Image
Director: James Wan Writer: David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Screenplay) & Will Beall (Screenplay). Starring: Jason Mamoa , Amber Heard , Patrick Wilson . See full cast members here . Genre: Action, Fantasy, Comic Book Adaptation, Superhero Movie Rating: Many violent fights and blood but no gore.  SYNOPSIS:  Arthur (Jason Mamoa) is a product of love between Queen Atlanna of Atlantis and a normal lighthouse keeper. Being the first born, he is destined to be the King of Atlantis and no matter how much he wanted to deny his own rights, situation forces him to unleash his own potential and be the bridge between two worlds. In more simple and direct words, Aquaman doesn't want to be king but his asshole younger brother wants to start a war so Aquaman has no choice but to be king.  James Wan is an interesting director for me. When he was assigned to be Furious 7's director, I had my doubts because how come he who is specialized in makin...

Bleach (2018) [Review]

Image
Director: Shinsuke Sato Writer: Tite Kubo (Manga),  Ardwight Chamberlain  (Script), Daisuke Habara  (Screenplay) & Shinsuke Sato (Screenplay). Starring: Sôta Fukushi , Hana Sugisaki . See full cast members here . Genre: Action, Fantasy, Anime/Manga Adaptation Rating: Many sword fights and some with blood and violent slashes.  SYNOPSIS:  Kurosaki Ichigo ( Sôta Fukushi ) is a high school student who has the ability to see ghosts. One night, a Shinigami (Soul Reaper) named Kuchiki Rukia (Hana Sugisaki) suddenly appeared in his bedroom and his house and family was attacked by an unknown creature known as a Hollow. Situation required Ichigo to take Rukia's powers and become a Shinigami.  Bleach is easily one of my favorite manga. Even after it suffers a downfall after the Aizen arc ended, I loyally continued reading it until the very last chapter. I have to admit, I had concerns when I learned that there's gonna...

Batman Ninja (2018) [Review]

Image
Director: Junpei Mizusaki Writer: Leo Chu (Japanese Version) & Eric S. Garcia (English Version) Starring (Voice English Version): Roger Craig Smith , Tony Hale , Grey Griffin .  Starring (Voice Japanese Version):  Kōichi Yamadera , Wataru Takagi , Ai Kakuma See full cast members here . Genre: Animation, Action Rating: Superhero fights! I would say that this is quite family friendly.  SYNOPSIS:  Gorilla Grodd builds a time travel machine and sent Batman and most of Gotham's main criminals to the feudal era of Japan. Batman has to find a way to defeat the enemies and go back to the future.  Okay, ever since I first saw the poster above last year on reddit, I was stoked. Batman is an awesome character and to be able to see a ninja version of him makes me feel so hyped.  There are two versions which are the English version and Japanese version. I have watched both versions and they're quite the same except for the langu...

The Lobster (2015) [Review]

Image
Director: Yorgos Lanthimos Writer: Yorgos Lanthimos & Efthymis Filippou Starring: Colin Farrell , Rachel Weisz . See full cast members here .  Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance Rating: Some sexual scenes.  SYNOPSIS:  After his wife left, David (Colin Farrell) is escorted to a hotel where he must found new love in 45 days or be transformed into an animal. This is a weird movie. Yes, the genre is comedy but it's not the kind of movie that would make you laugh uncontrollably, no. This movie is black comedy or dark humor. It's weird and kinda disturbing but I tell you this, I just could not stop watching. The concept is interesting and I was intrigued to know how the story would end.  The acting is quite awkward not because the actors and actresses are bad but it is intentional. Like I said, it's dark humor. If you have watched The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)  then you can guess how the acting is. The speech of the characters are...

Wild Card (2015) [Review]

Image
Director: Simon West Writer: William Goldman (based on his novel Heat) Starring: Jason Statham , Dominik García-Lorido , Michael Angarano , Milo Ventimiglia . See full cast members here .  Genre: Action, Drama Rating: It's a Statham movie, so expect to see blood and broken bones. There are always some disturbing images of rape and violence against women SYNOPSIS:  Nick Wild (Jason Statham) is a bodyguard for hire. After being raped and beaten, Holly (Dominik García-Lorido) asks for Nick's help so she can have her revenge.  When there's Statham in a movie, people would expect it to be action packed and macho. Welp, this movie is just the same. The action is awesome and most of the scenes are shot beautifully so audience has a wonderful look of each takedown and killer moves.  However, the main focus of this movie is not in the action. Sure, the action is quite plenty and satisfying but the soul is in the powerful dramatic performances o...

Table 19 (2017) [Review]

Image
Director: Jeffrey Blitz Writer: Jeffrey Blitz Starring: Anna Kendrick , Wyatt Russell , Lisa Kudrow , Craig Robinson , June Squibb . See full cast members here .  Genre: Comedy, Romance Rating: Pretty tame though the theme is more suitable for adults.  SYNOPSIS:  Eloise (Anna Kendrick) is relieved from her duties as the maid of honor after being dumped by her boyfriend, Teddy (Wyatt Russell) who is the bride's brother and best man. However, she decides to attend the wedding anyway and ends up sitting at table number 19 together with the other unwanted guests.  To be honest, the main reason why I wanted to watch this movie is because of Anna Kendrick. I am a fan because she's like this awkward funny kinda girl. This makes her quite perfect for the role because most of the situations in this movie are super awkward. Can you imagine? Attending a wedding alone while your ex which you clearly still have feelings for is the best man and he has a dat...

Jumper (2008) [Review]

Image
Director: Doug Liman Writer: David S. Goyer , Jim Uhls , Simon Kinberg . Based on a novel by Simon Kinberg Starring: Hayden Christensen , Rachel Bilson , Samuel L Jackson , Jamie Bell . See full cast members here .  Genre: Sci Fi, Action Rating: One making out scene, many fight scenes.  SYNOPSIS:  David Rice (Hayden Christensen) discovers that he has an ability to teleport from one place to another. After living lavishly for so long as a jumper, he learns the hard way about the existence of an underground group that has been actively killing jumpers like him.  Teleportation is like one of the powers that I most likely to choose if given choices and therefore, I sort of have a soft spot for this movie. I saw this movie when it first came out in 2008 and liked it and recently, I rewatched it and found myself still liking it.  Reviews have been quite harsh on this movie particularly on the story development which I agree at some point. It...

M.F.A. (2017) [Review]

Image
“Ever hear the saying an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind?”  “The world's already blind.” Director: Natalie Leite Writer: Leah McKendrick Starring: Francesca Eastwood , Leah McKendrick. See full cast members here .  Genre: Thriller Rating: Multiple rape scenes, sex scenes, nudity and a lot of blood and violence. NSFW SYNOPSIS:  Noelle (Francesca Eastwood) is a rape victim. Feeling helpless and not getting all the help she needs, she takes matters into her own hand and avenges other sexual assault victims.  I have to be honest, reading the synopsis, I thought that this movie is going to be dumb. To my surprise, I found that I actually like this movie because it is rather good.  First of all, I have to commend on the rape scenes because I feel that they seem rather disturbingly real. The way the rapists act, the way the victims react, the scenes seems so genuine to me that I couldn't bare to watch them.  ...

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) [Review]

Image
Director: Hayao Miyazaki  Writer: Hayao Miyazaki (Japanese version). Cindy Davis & Donald H. Hewitt  (English version) Japanese Voice Cast: Sumi Shimamoto , Gorô Naya ,  Yôji Matsuda .  English Voice Cast: Alison Lohman , Patrick Stewart , Shia LaBeouf See full cast members here .  Genre: Animation, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi Rating: There are fighting and war but overall, it is quite family friendly. SYNOPSIS: Princess Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind tries so hard to stop two nations, Tolmekia and Pejite, from going into battle with each other as the war would only result in complete destruction of the remaining humanity.  Hayao Miyazaki is often to as the Japanese Walt Disney as he often excel with his work. The best thing about him is his ability to build worlds that are far from our imagination and illustrates them as beautiful as can be. Besides that, the characters that he creates are often lovable and able to mo...
