SINGULAR AUDIENCE

"Just as a flower does not choose its color, we are not responsible for what we have come to be.  Only once you realize this do you become free, and to become adult is to become free." Director: Chan-wook Park Writer: Wentworth Miller Starring: Mia Wasikowska , Nicole Kidman , Matthew Goode . See full cast members here .  Genre: Drama, Thriller Rating: Contains violence and blood. Some making out sessions, nudity and masturbation. SYNOPSIS India Stoker (Mia Wasikowska) never knew she had an uncle, Charles Stoker (Matthew Goode), until her father died. The uncle appears to be charming but India suspects that he has ulterior motives.  Premiering at Sundance in January 2013, Stoker certainly has an obvious indie vibe to it which is not a complain for me because I sort of love indie movies. Well, actually I love all genres of movies but most indie movies are beautifully filmed and thought provoking. Stoker are both of those. I love the cinem...

“White.  The color of trust. It’s the color of honesty.  And the color of the lies he tells himself.” Director: Paul Haggis Writer: Paul Haggis Starring: Liam Neeson , Olivia Wilde , Mila Kunis , James Franco , Adrien Brody , Moran Atias . See full cast members here .  Genre: Drama, Romance Rating: Contains nudity and sex scenes. SYNOPSIS:  This movie contains three stories which are set in three places. The first one is about an award winning novelist, Micheal (Liam Neeson) who is having an affair with Anna (Olivia Wilde) in Paris. Next, Julia (Mila Kunis) is having a custody battle for her son against Rick (James Franco) in New York. Lastly, Scott (Adrien Brody), a businessman gets involved with a gypsy like woman, Monika (Moran Atias) in Rome.  To tell you the truth, I looked for this movie because I saw a GIF on Reddit showing one of this movie's scenes where Olivia Wilde is completely naked. Judging from that GIF alone,...

Julian ( Ryan Gosling ) & his brother, Billy ( Tom Burke ) were drug dealers in Thailand. Billy was killed by a local policeman, Chang ( Vithaya Pansringarm ), for brutally killing a 16 year old girl. Crystal ( Kristin Scott Thomas ), Julian's mother, urged him to avenge Billy, thus resulting to series of clashes between drug lords & merciless cops.  Though the synopsis seems quite intriguing, but the pacing of this movie is rather slow... Yes, there are gun fights & fist fights but they're really scarce.  I wanted to watch this movie for two reasons. Nicolas Winding Refn , the director & Ryan Gosling, the lead. I expected that this movie would be as good as one of my favorite flicks & also Nicolas Winding Refn's work, Drive .  Well, it certainly brings the same feel as Drive. The characters don't really say much, the music helps a lot in setting the mood & Ryan Gosling is handsome as fuck.  However, compared to Drive, t...

James Hunt ( Chris Hemsworth ) & Niki Lauda ( Daniel Bruhl ) were rivals in Formula One (F1) racing... The story revolves around both of them; how the first started, how they met & became rivals, how they went neck to neck with each other to find out who's the best among them.  True story. I was first introduced to F1 racing when I was in secondary school... The principal decided to install televisions at the school canteen right before an F1 season (I can't recall what year) started... So, both teachers & many students (mostly males) took that opportunity to watch the races during recesses... I initially joined them because I was wondering what's so fun about watching this sport... At that time, my family couldn't afford a satellite dish & therefore, I was not exposed to most kinds of sports such as tennis, golf & motor GP. My first reaction was... "Meh..."  or was it, "ZZZZZZZZ"? Yeah, I thought that i...

Bobby Beans ( Denzel Washington ) & Micheal Stigman ( Mark Wahlberg ) were partners in crimes... Bobby was the guy who always knew a guy while Stig was a sharpshooter with attitude... Their lives were in danger after they successfully robbed a bank & got entangled in a string of corrupt relationship between the Navy, CIA & a crime lord... The owner of the money wanted his money back.  Fucking hilarious. Yeah, this movie gave me a lot of laughs... I had fun watching it. Most of the laughs came from the script... Wahlberg & Washington did great in delivering fast paced comedic dialogues... I mean, hey! How come no one paired these two up before this?? Another cast that shone bright is Bill Paxton who played a dirty CIA agent named Earl. His lines were also awesome, particularly when he's interrogating. There's nothing new in terms of action, though... This is the type of movie where despite being rained with bullets from all sides, the leads sti...

The story took place in the future where earth had been extremely polluted and overpopulated... The wealthiest among humans built Elysium - a peaceful, clean & beautiful place for them to live... Citizens of Elysium were all healthy because the medical technology there was so advanced... Only selected humans could live there while the rest of humanity struggled for survival on barren earth... Max ( Matt Damon ), an earth citizen fell terminally ill... In order to cure his illness, he must find a way to get to Elysium...  This movie is directed by Neill Blomkamp - the one who brought you District 9 ... For me, there was indeed a District 9 feel when I watched Elysium because of the place setting (barren, apocalyptic earth), gore & pacing...  If I want to compare Elysium with District 9, I would definitely say that the latter is better in terms of story... But when it comes to other aspects, both are almost awesomely great...  Okey, f...

Both Flash & his most formidable foe, Eobard Thawne (Reverse Flash / Professor Zoom) has the ability to travel through space & time using Speed Force ... The past was changed & it resulted to chaos in the altered present... In the altered present, Wonder Woman & her Amazonians went to war against Aquaman & his army of sea dwellers... The war was so big & apocalyptic, billions of people died... In order to turn everything to the way it originally was, Flash must travel through time & prevent the past from being altered.   I am sure that most movie geeks were thrilled on the announcement of a future real life Superman VS Batman movie and then felt very disappointed with Ben Affleck being casted as Batman...  The fact that Superman & Batman are gonna be in the same movie gets my hopes high on future Justice League movie! I grew up watching the animated series of Justice League & Justice League Unlimited, so this is big stuff for...

Posters of Hunger Games: Catching Fire film have been released and boy, looking at them got me so excited!  I missed watching the first film, The Hunger Games  (2012), in the cinemas but managed to catch it on DVD... The movie itself is good but the feeling of there-must-be-more-to-it kicked me in the stomach and inspired me to pick up the books...  Yeah, there were more... The story is not plainly about a bunch of kids killing other kids in order to survive... It's a story of desperation & helplessness... It's a story of rebellion... It's a story of how the people can unite to stand against corrupt government... It's an inspiring story, fit in this era of change & revolt... The film reminded me of Syria & Egypt & other countries where the people rise & fight...  Comparing the film with the first book, I came to a verdict that the book is better simply because it explains things going on the story in mo...
